Mental Health Care Day 2003

A unique programme was organized by Divya Jyoti Cultural Organisation and a Social Welfare Society to mark the day for World Mental Health Day-2003 in New Delhi on 10th October 2003. This programme was sponsored by the SEVAK in Kolkata it is totally dedicated NGO. Basically SEVAK observed the Mental Health Day in each and every part in our country on the same day on behalf of W.F.M.H. We were told to make a programme in view how is culture is related with this context. According to that we made this programme. Initially we did not have any plan to do such function. On 7th October 2003 I got the certificate of this society registration and same day prepared invitation card for this function, all cards was distributed within 9th morning. The auditorium was 85% occupied by the invited guests and function was went off without any major lapse.

Shri Romesh Sabharwal, Chairman, ITDC and a social activist has inaugurated the programme on the Mental Health /day 2003 and emphasized that involvement in cultural activities and to keep busy with creative performance is the best medicine for the mental health.

Dr. A.K. Varshaney a noted physician and the consultant physician to the Prime Minister gave and outline for the upkeep of the mental Health of the younger generation. On behalf of the Divya Jyoti Cultural Organisation, Smt. Chandralekha Sengupta welcomed the guests and gave an outline on the function. She mentioned that Divya Jyoti Cultural Organisation, in order to broaden their peripohery of work and to create a national network has joined SEVAC, a Kolkata based NGO to celebrate the Mental Health Day every year.

It is evident that the wave of globalisation has directly effected to the children & adolescents and a rapid change has been seen in their secular, social and cultural values. This problems is not only a cause of concern in the country the Mental Health Problem of them is now a growing problem in the world scenarios. DCOSWS is concern on the degeneration of the age-old values of Indian Culture Heritage and the ethics of the society.

To Mark the occasion a beautiful cultural mosaic of Dance and music was presented by the young children and the participants are M. Minakshi, Sonali Sharma, Madhumita Sen, Nupur Roy and Sovanavrata Sarkar.
